Belgian singer
Selah Sue broke through in 2010 with her fabulous soul voice and a debut album reminiscent of both Nina Simone and Amy Winehouse. She quickly gained international recognition and this marked the start of a busy period of her life that ended up lasting six years. Selah Sue is a true friend of North Sea Jazz, having performed at the festival in 2009, 2011, 2015 and 2018; during the latter edition in an acoustic setting. It was the year after she had taken a break and given birth to her first child. Nowadays, she has two children, is in her thirties and has just released her third album, Persona, which was influenced by 90s hip hop and soul, swinging jazzy bass lines, instant pop and pioneering R&B beats. Just like on her previous albums, Selah Sue is honest about her deepest feelings, like only she can do.
