Ghanaian jazz trumpeter
Peter Somuah learned to master his instrument by endlessly listening to trumpet legends like Roy Hargrove, Freddie Hubbard and Miles Davis. His playing is characterized by a warm and melancholy sound, combined with an exceptional sense of rhythm, fueled by his upbringing in Accra, surrounded by West African music. After several successful years as a musician in Ghana and performing all over the world with big names, Somuah settled in Rotterdam. In the Netherlands, he soon started working with artists like Akwasi and Yung Nnelg. His live reputation has not gone unnoticed and last year he was awarded the Erasmus Jazz Prize for up-and-coming jazz talents. In May he released his debut album
Outer Space, a melting-pot of jazz, funk and traditional West African music, that radiates Somuah's love of creative compositions and roots rhythms.
