Cardiff University Big Band comprises fine new jazz talent from the university scene. An auditioned band, they perform challenging, high quality jazz across the UK and internationally. The Big Band is regarded as one of the leading ensembles in the university, specialising in both contemporary big band repertoire and innovative new arrangements, as well as playing the classics of Glenn Miller, Count Basie and Duke Ellington. Cardiff University Jazz Society was formed in 2011 from the long-established Big Band Society. Students have the opportunity to perform, listen to, and appreciate live jazz music. They also run jam nights in local venues and go on tour each summer, during which they have performed at many prestigious jazz events throughout Europe.
