In the summer of 1970, pianist Frans Elsen (1934-2011) spent his vacation in Norway. Inspired by the desolate surroundings and small villages - and influenced by some personal problems - he wrote and arranged a Norwegian cycle. He played the pieces in the following years with a group whose sound was a bit hipper than usual. At that time, the pianist wanted to use a Fender Rhodes and sought out people who would fit right in. Over half a century later, two brilliant studio sessions were found, recorded in 1972 and 1973 with a septet of which only drummer Eric Ineke (1947) is still alive. The album Norway was released in 2021 by the Dutch Jazz Archives. Eric Ineke now leads a septet made up of well-known Dutch musicians who were inspired by the special pieces by Frans Elsen. The original arrangements are brought back to life under the title Norway Revisited.
