American singer Michelle David performs gospel in a way that can touch even confirmed atheists. David grew up in New York where she studied at the famous High School of Performing Arts, known from the film and TV series Fame. Originally, she wanted to become a dancer, but an injury put an end to that dream. Although she had always sung in church, it took some time before David ventured a first step towards a career in music. Once she took up residence in Amsterdam, she started the band The Gospel Sessions, that has since been re-christened The True-tones. Together they have released six albums and toured Europe. The past two Covid years have been particularly hard for David; she lost her mother and several other loved ones and battled breast cancer. Music pulled her through this dark period. Last April saw the release of her latest album Truth & Soul, on which David shows her new bandname brings with it a broader range of styles.
