In May last year, drummer John Engels celebrated his 85th birthday with his drum kit outside his house, and whoever passed by played along. He intended to go on an anniversary tour with alto saxophonist Benjamin Herman and bassist Joris Teepe, but then the pandemic hit... Luckily, the trio was able to record the album When Will The Blues Leave, which will also be the basis of their concert at the festival. These days, Engels is an eminent celebrity in the Dutch jazz world, with an impressive record of service, including as a sideman for jazz legends such as Chet Baker, Ben Webster, Dizzy Gillespie, and Stan Getz. Benjamin Herman is the most talked-about alto saxophonist in the Netherlands and has more than fifty albums to his name. Joris Teepe has already made twenty albums as a bandleader and his album In the Spirit Of Rashied Ali was nominated for an Edison. The three of them recorded the hit The Peacocks, which has been streamed millions of times on Spotify.
