Tenor saxophonist, composer and bandleader James Brandon Lewis is one of today's most brilliant and relevant jazz musicians. “A saxophonist who embodies and transcends tradition,” as The New York Times put it. And that's exactly how it is. With his powerful, adventurous sound, Brandon Lewis is a child of Coltrane and Sonny Rollins who has now struck out on his own. He pairs lyrical melodies with rock-hard free jazz and adds a deeper, spiritual dimension to connect the two. The American has made a big impression in Rotterdam twice before, with a trio and then a quintet. This time he's playing with his new James Brandon Lewis Quartet with Aruán Ortiz on piano, Brad Jones on bass and Chad Taylor on drums. Lewis recently released the albums Molecular (2020) and Code Of Being (2021) with this group.
