Born on Christmas Day, Julian Lage grew up in picturesque Santa Rosa in California. He rose to fame as a child prodigy in the documentary Jules At Eight, developing his virtuoso guitar playing and performing at the Grammy Awards ceremony when he was only eighteen. Following his graduation from the Berklee College of Music in 2008, Lage released his debut record Sounding Point. He was instantly nominated for a Grammy Award. In the following years, he was a productive composer on albums like World’s Fair and Arclight. After having accompanied other artists on their Blue Note recordings, last year it was Lage’s turn to debut on that label with the album Squint. He recorded the tracks with his regular bassist Jorge Roeder and drummer Dave King, who is known for working with The Bad Plus.
