There where Highway 61 and 49 meet, is the heart of the Mississippi Delta. It’s the place where Christone ‘Kingfish’ Ingram was born and raised. This can be heard in his guitar playing and his singing, which both grab you by the throat. He studied classic bluesmen like Robert Johnson, B.B. King and Muddy Waters and you can hear echoes of them in his music, but his album mostly impresses because of his remarkable songs. “I'm moving forward with one foot in the past,” he explains. This year his second album, 2021’s 662, earned him a Grammy for Best Contemporary Blues Album. The twenty-three-year-old musician is backed by his iconic blues friends Buddy Guy and Keb’ Mo’, and funk legend Bootsy Collins is a fan, just like rapper The Game. You don’t need to be a blues fan to fall for Kingfish's new old music.
