When Michael Kiwanuka, a British singer-songwriter with Ugandan roots, won the BBC Sound of 2012 award, he had not even released an album yet. But the music industry insiders polled by the famous broadcaster obviously knew what the future would bring, because over the course of time Kiwanuka has become an international superstar. After his retro-soul debut album Home Again (2012), Kiwanuka opened his creative spirit to other styles and genres that could further broaden the spectrum of his warm voice and intelligent song structures. The London-based artist has worked with Jack White and Black Keys frontman Dan Auerbach. Kiwanuka also collaborated with rock and hip hop producer Danger Mouse on the guitar-driven album Love & Hate (2016). He continued this successful collaboration on his third album Kiwanuka (2019). The result? A magnificent album on which Kiwanuka revealed himself to be a born soul man with a penchant for funk as well as biting beats and sharp guitars.
