Could trumpeter Suzan Veneman be a reincarnation of Chet Baker? Her beautiful and soulful sound as well as her adventurous compositions have allowed her to conquer venue after venue. Before Veneman started her sextet in 2019, she had played with Beets Meutgeert New Jazz Orchestra and the Millennium Jazz Orchestra. In 2021, she released her debut album Migrations Of The Mind. On it she explores the three stages of mourning that she went through after receiving a diagnosis of MS. The album ends in a grand finale of acceptation and renewed energy. Her illness doesn’t prevent her from going full throttle on the jazz scene. In 2021, she was invited by the NDR Bigband in Hamburg as a guest composer and this year she was one of ten composers selected for the Week van de Jazz.
