French-Lebanese Ibrahim Maalouf has caused a furore this past decade as one of the most prominent trumpet players on the French scene. With his virtuoso technique and lyrical playing that whip up audiences, he sells out every venue. During his teen years, Maalouf studied classical music and won the most significant international competitions. However, he also studied jazz and in the end developed into one of the greatest jazz innovators of this time. For his adventurous compositions, Maalouf is inspired by Arabic music, pop, rock, funk and world music. On his forthcoming album, of which the title is yet unknown, the trumpeter promises to return with a new style and special guest musicians. Maalouf has often visited the festival and was Artist In Residence in 2016. His performances are guaranteed to be a vibrant, steaming spectacle.
