The members of seven-piece band
El Comité are regarded as some of the best and most famous Cuban musicians of their time. Each of them has collaborated with various greats such as Omara Portuondo, Chucho Valdés, McCoy Tyner, and Esperanza Spalding. In October 2017, the idea arose to form a band together for a concert in Toulouse, France. It immediately became clear that it wasn’t going to be one-off performance. Nine months later, the musicians met again, but this time in the studio to record the debut album
Y Que!? (So What). A swirling mix of influences and rhythms. The music ranges from Afrobeat to funk and Latin jazz, but above all, El Comité pays warm homage to the rich musical history of Cuba. You can also hear this in their bodacious performances that vibrate with boundless energy.
