At her debut at the North Sea Jazz Festival in 2010, Gretchen Parlato immediately made a deep impression. The American vocalist has a unique style that is firmly rooted in jazz in a refined way. As a student she already played with Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, and Esperanza Spalding. With a flawless voice and an impeccable sense of timing, Parlato whispers her songs and creates a dreamy universe where it’s pleasant to be. Parlato returned to the Rotterdam festival twice more and then took a break because of the birth of her son. Eight years after her acclaimed album Live In NYC, in 2021 her long-awaited new studio album FLOR was released. It is an ode to Brazilian music, her great love and inspiration. Many songs are about motherhood, which has only made Parlato grow as a musician, it seems. She radiates and shines now like never before.
