Since his 2011 album When The Heart Emerges Glistening, California trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire has been challenging his fans to embark on musical adventures. He is one of the most versatile jazz trumpeters of his generation, constantly looking beyond the boundaries of jazz. In his experimental compositions, Akinmusire combines elements from hip hop, classical music, pop, spoken word, art, personal experiences and painful social issues in an extraordinary way. This definitely applies to his widely acclaimed latest album On The Tender Spot Of Every Calloused Moment for which he received a Grammy nomination. Akinmunsire won the prestigious Thelonious Monk Competition in 2007 and the Paul Acket Award at North Sea Jazz in 2014. He was taught by Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter. In addition, Akinmusire has worked with Esperanza Spalding, Snarky Puppy and he featured on Kendrick Lamar's acclaimed album How To Pimp A Butterfly.
