The Preacher Men are from the Netherlands, yet with their warm, bluesy sound drummer Chris Strik, saxophonist Efraïm Trujillo and organ player Rob Mostert effortlessly take you to the smoky jazz joints deep in the Southern US. Their debut album Preaching Out Loud (2016) was well received, just like its recent successor with a title that says it all: Blue. On it we find nine grooving songs, including seven compositions by Trujillo. Whether they perform a subdued late-night ballad like Grumpy Old Man, or stir up the audience with Speeddate, this super trio always sounds soulful, with the atmospheric sax of bandleader Trujillo taking charge. Mostert operates the pedals of his Hammond B3 with his bare feet, making the music literally come from his toes. Without actually preaching about their qualities we can say that these Preacher Men definitely deserve a resounding hallelujah!
