Spinifex is a special group: a band of extremes. There is a lot of room for improvisation but the arrangements have been strictly set down beforehand. Their elusive music sometimes comes close to punk rock. But there is a lot of room for many, many things. Old rhythms from countries like Turkey and India, for example. For jazz lovers, trumpeter Maris might be the most well-known member of the band. For years he has been at the vanguard of the European scene. Drummer Philipp Moser started out in a metal band but now combines the lessons he learned then with modern jazz influences. Portuguese bassist Gonçalo Almeida is a chameleon and he is able to make variations like no-one else. However, Spinifex’s main man is saxophonist and composer Tobias Klein. He is the musical driving force behind this ensemble, that sounds like a new genre entirely.
