The Baylor Project consists of drummer Marcus Baylor and his wife Jean. We remember Marcus from when he was the drummer of the Yellowjackets. Jean is an astounding jazz and soul singer who has clearly set the tone of their debut album The Journey. It immediately gained the couple two Grammy nominations last year. In the past, the singer made her mark as one half of R&B duo Zhané and could be heard on the albums of Kenny Garrett and Marcus Miller. Now the Baylors take the lead as composers, arrangers, and producers. In a live setting, the songs come even more to life and make you feel as if you are in a church in the heart of Louisiana. This gospel influence makes sense, as both band members’ fathers were reverends. It all makes The Baylor Project a wonderful asset for the NN North Sea Jazz Festival.
