Bassist and teacher Joris Teepe (1962) recently made a beautiful album that would become an instant collector’s item, according to critics. Together with tenor saxophonists Wayne Escoffery and Johannes Enders, alto saxophonist Michael Moore and guitarist Freddie Bryant he recorded the music for In The Spirit of Rashied Ali at the Groningen conservatory of music. It is a tribute to the legendary and avant-garde drummer. A musical project for which Teepe was the initiator par excellence, because he had performed with Rashied Ali (1933-2009) in New York for almost ten years. The bassist, who is known in our country for his tireless efforts to bring musicians from the New York scene to the Prince Claus conservatory in Groningen, has played with a great number of other celebrities, like Benny Golson, Lee Konitz, Dave Liebman, Randy Brecker, and Barry Harris. He is also an active bandleader (16 albums), composer, producer, and teacher, at Queens College in New York, among other schools.
