British singer Mahalia is undoubtedly young but at 19 years old she already has a wealth of experience. She wrote her first song when she was 8 and signed a recording contract aged 13. Today she is willing to tackle every genre and is equally at home singing on Rudimental’s summer-house hit We The Generation as she is on her own, much more intimate EP Never Change. On the other hand, Mahalia’s single Sober (2017) is reminiscent of the R&B of Erykah Badu and Lauryn Hill. Both are strong women - and so is Mahalia! Her vocals on Sober are absolutely self-assured and relaxed as she sings of love and the pain of losing it. The single became a worldwide hit and the video was viewed by almost thirty million music fans. Mahalia had a particularly productive year in 2016 when she released her first album Diary Of Me and acted in the film Brotherhood.
