Drums, sax and piano: sounds like an ordinary formation, but Mammal Hands have no intention of being at all ordinary. The trio from Norwich, England, combine spiritual jazz with folk, modern classic, music from India, and a dash of Sufi trance music. Their compositions range from minimalistic to drawn out, the band take their time to pull the listener into a new world. At times this is a dark world, although never one without hope. In a live setting, the Brits do it differently. In a short period of time, they have gained a reputation for creating energetic storm on stage and are even compared with GoGo Penguin. The Guardian called them ‘one of Europe’s most exciting bands’. The band’s tabla percussion, flowing sax solos and minimalistic piano playing entrances the listener, in more ways than one.
