The pride of Zimbabwe bursts with energy and harmony. The way in which Mokoomba can switch from a capella singing to the rhythms of southern Africa is irresistible. The six musicians all know each other from their region of origin: around Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. It is a melting pot of several of the country’s ethnic groups and the area attracts many tourists as well. This gives Mokoomba not only their unmistakeable Zimbabwean sound but also an international flavor, to make it easy on audiences all over the world. And it works! The band have been touring the globe since 2012 and they’ve even had a documentary made about their success. Everywhere, their danceable mix of traditional music, Afrobeat and Afro rock gets audiences to loudly clap their hands, cheer, and dance. This year a new album is scheduled to be released, following up on their earlier release, Luyando from 2017.
