Swedish pianist and composer Bobo Stenson is still an innovator despite being a veteran with a career that spans four decades. His world-class Bobo Stenson Trio is known for the broad orientation of their music and their creativity remains unparalleled, making the trio as relevant today as it ever was. Stenson’s fascinating playing is marked by its tranquility, space and dynamics regardless of the speed at which he strikes the keys. Before garnering fame with his own trio, the pianist played with greats on the international jazz scene, including Dexter Gordon, Stan Getz and Don Cherry. Stenson not only plays his own compositions but is also a major interpreter of John Coltrane’s work. He also plays Swedish folk music and the occasional standard. With Anders Jormin on bass and Jon Fält on drums the NN North Sea Jazz Festival is host to one of the world’s best piano trios.
