The War and Treaty are Michael and Tanya Trotter, an American couple that came together while being on two completely different paths in life. Michael found his singing voice in the army in Iraq, writing songs for comrades who were killed in action. Tanya won a talent show aged thirteen. When she saw Michael perform, she immediately asked for his phone number. They are now happily married, with a six-year-old son and a career that keeps getting better. Their debut album, Healing Tide (2018), was produced by Americana veteran Buddy Miller. It is an album filled with pain and healing energy, but most of all it is filled with old-school soul. Some might hear a new Ike & Tina Turner in it. Others, very cautiously, say that they really hear Aretha Franklin in Tanya. If you watch the fiery live recording of the track Down To The River on YouTube, these comparisons only seem appropriate.
