Steffen Morrison revives old soul but gives it a different twist. The Surinam-Dutch singer grew up listening to the albums of James Brown, Otis Redding, and Marvin Gaye. In September 2016 his EP Just Another Man appeared, including the successful single Do It All Again. In that same year he was also the protagonist in the theater play I’m A Soulman, about the famous Stax label in Memphis. So nothing but good things about Morrison’s soul baggage, yet he gets his inspiration from other sources as well, like the melodious pop of The Crystals and the sharp lyrics of Lou Reed. The single Old Enough To Know Better was named Top Song by Dutch station Radio 2 in 2017 and it made Morrison into the Nieuwe Naam (new act) of that same station. Meanwhile he wrote his debut album Movin’ On, which was released last year, together with Dutch top producer Tjeerd Oosterhuis.
