The trio of Norwegian bassist Mats Eilersen (1975) have been performing for ten years now, and they have released a wonderful album: And Then Comes The Night, on ECM. This company has released many albums that Eilertsen played on with Scandinavian legends like the Tord Gustavsen Ensemble, The Source, Trygve Seim and the Wolfert Brederode Quartet. Recently, the bassist performed on the striking album Im Treibhaus, recorded by Norwegian tenor vocalist and tenor saxophonist Håkon Kornstad. Yet Eilertsen leads many projects, too. Like this sensitive Mats Eilersen Trio, also consisting of Dutch pianist Harmen Fraanje (1976) and Norwegian drummer Thomas Strønen (1972). The versatile Fraanje was called ‘one of the most impressive young European pianists of the past decade’ by AllAboutJazz and since 2005 Strønen has been a much sought-after accompanist on ECM recordings. He is the founder and leader of the Norwegian-British band Food.
