Gilbert Gil is an icon of Brazilian music who has attained legendary status. His eclectic style includes influences from rock, world, reggae and, of course, Brazilian music. Moreover, Gil is a master in reflecting daily life in his songs. It was no accident that his critical socio-political lyrics made him one of the leaders of the Tropicália cultural movement, alongside other big names like Caetano Veloso and Gal Costa. Last year the singer, composer and former culture minister added the new album OK OK OK to his already extensive recorded oeuvre. The album was produced by his son, Bem Gil, at a time when 76-year-old Gil’s poor health had brought him to the brink of death. OK OK OK is an intimate album about family, old age and mortality. At the festival, Gil and his band (complete with horn section) will play these new songs along with classics from the past.
