Tower of Power was founded in Oakland, California in 1968. Right across the bay, in San Francisco, flower power reigned supreme. But the swinging band has never been influenced by trends or hypes, right from the start or throughout the decades that followed. For years they built a reputation, making them a sought-after band for solo artists. They have let their horns blast for the likes of Elton John, Santana, and Bonnie Raitt. However, they never forget their own catalogue, as can be seen from their impressive live and studio albums. Last year, they celebrated their fiftieth anniversary with their latest album, Soul Side Of Town. Tenor saxophonist Emilio Castillo was the bandleader at the start, and he still is. Under his inspirational leadership these ‘soul survivors’ tour the globe tirelessly, from Australia to Alaska, this year with a stopover in Rotterdam - thankfully - for an undoubtedly TOP show.
