A jazz vocalist with a baseball cap who is influenced as much by hip hop and R&B as he is by jazz classics. In the jazz world, they don’t come any more unique than New York singer José James. He has recorded a stunning tribute to Billie Holiday, as well as the modern, almost futuristic synthesizer album Love In A Time Of Madness and an intimate album with Belgian pianist Jeff Neve. Although these albums are completely different, they are all part of the impressively broad oeuvre of José James. This year, he is performing at the festival with the 42-piece Noordpool Orkest that has backed artists like Nynke Laverman, Eric Vloeimans, and Waylon. With James, they will be playing the music of Bill Withers, the American soul singer known for evergreens like Ain't No Sunshine, Lovely Day and Lean On Me. James breathes fresh life into the songs in a matchless way.
