Cuban pianist Ramón Valle is known as one of the greatest masters on his instrument. He grew up in the town of Holguin but in his twenties left Cuba for South America, where he was discovered by Chucho Valdés. Valle toured the globe in the years that followed and released his debut album, Danza Negra, in 2001. This marked the start of a brilliant career that includes fantastic albums like No Escape and Fabulas. The album Flashes From Holland came out in 2011 and features Dutch guitarist Jesse van Ruller. Valle, who is now based in the Netherlands, has become known as the ‘other face of Cuban jazz.’ Anyone who has ever seen and heard him play knows why. This year, he is bringing his Ramón Valle Trio to the festival with Omar Rodriguez Calvo on bass and Jamie Peet on drums. Together they will perform music from the album The Time Is Now that was released this spring.
