Although he’s not yet thirty, guitarist
Laurence Jones already has five albums and many years of touring behind him. His show at the Lead Belly Fest at the Royal Albert Hall, where the program included stars like Van Morrison, caused quite a stir: ‘The new Clapton,’ whispered some. Critics have highly praised his furious playing which you can hear on the roaring single
Give Me Your Time from the album
The Truth that was released last fall. It’s a catchy album that illustrates Jones’ ambitions because it involved a new record label, a new studio (in Miami) and a new band. In particular, the addition of a keyboardist (Bennett Holland) and more background vocals give Jones’ sound further depth. His formidable voice is now showcased even better and there is greater room for his pop-influenced touches. The latter does not mean that the young Brit has abandoned the blues – live, his fingers are just as nimble as ever as they race unbridled across the strings.
