Although New York-based drummer and bandleader Allison Miller has firm roots in the jazz tradition, she also draws inspiration from a variety of genres. She grew up in Washington, D.C., and studied at the University of West Virginia where she learned different percussion styles. Miller enjoys working with singers such as Ani DiFranco and Natalie Merchant and is famous for her melodic drum style. She released her first album 5 AM Stroll in 2005 with her band TILT. After years of intensive touring, in 2010 her second album came out, this time self-titled, and recorded with her new band Allison Miller’s Boom Tic Boom. Miller has put together a fantastic band in Boom Tic Boom: pianist Myra Melford, violinist Jenny Scheinman, clarinetist Jeff Lederer, cornet player Kirk Knuffke, and bassist Todd Sickafoose. Together with these musicians, Miller is able to blend klezmer, jazz, Latin and improvised music in an organic way to create a highly enjoyable, exciting whole. In 2016 the second album Otis Was a Polar Beer was released.
