Despite being 77 years old, Billy Hart isn’t thinking of retiring. The American master drummer still tours frequently. Hart is no lightweight in the jazz world: early in his career he helped Shirley Horn make a comeback and played with Wes Montgomery and Jimmy Smith. In the seventies, he was a member of Herbie Hancock’s legendary Mwandishi band and worked with pioneering musicians like Miles Davis, Pharoah Sanders and Wayne Shorter. Joshua Redman says that Hart is one of the best drummers of all time. After a highly successful week of playing with the drummer at the Village Vanguard in New York, the multifaceted saxophonist was hooked and wanted more. And that wish has come true: the two jazz greats have joined forces in the Billy Hart Quartet featuring Joshua Redman – excitement guaranteed!
