Sometimes talent is right there, waiting to be found. Coely was discovered at a youth center in Antwerp and went on to sign a recording contract with independent label Beatville in 2012, while she was still at school. Her debut single Ain't Chasing Pavements was released that same year. It was the perfect calling card for her sharply defined, characteristic mix of raw raps and soulful vocals. The hit single meant airplay for Coely, as well as recognition and media attention. A year later, Studio Brussel dubbed her ‘Queen of the Belgian Festivals’ in 2013. Coely seems to have been born for the stage, with her energetic act and huge smile. She has confidently been the opening act for stars like Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West and Mos Def. Her talent was noticed by Universal Music and the company released her first full album last year: Different Waters. Still 24 years old, Coely has been given the chance to conquer North Sea Jazz for the first time this year.
