Norwegian trumpeter and multi-instrumentalist Mathias Eick (1979) just released the album Ravensburg, his fourth on the ECM label. Eick recorded the album at the famous Rainbow Studio in Oslo. Looking back, he sees it as having been a real challenge. It is an emotional album on which the versatile artist expresses his perception of human life through his music, like a jigsaw puzzle with countless pieces; and that explains the title. Eick’s ties to his family also resonate throughout Ravensburg. Mathias Eick is a thoughtful man who has played with the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra and the Norwegian group Jaga Jazzist, among others. He has also worked with Chick Corea, Manu Katché and Pat Metheny but is equally at home with the psychedelic-rock band Motorpsycho. For Eick, the trumpet is an extension of his body. He is also a vibraphonist, bassist, guitarist, pianist, and singer – there are no boundaries for this multi-talented artist.
