The lineup is already inviting: a trio consisting of two renowned jazz musicians and a vocalist who has only just graduated. Under The Surface is a new Dutch band, started by drummer Joost Lijbaart (1967), known for his work with saxophonist Yuri Honing, guitarist Bram Stadhouders (1987) who has worked with the Dutch Chamber Choir, Jim Black, and Sidsel Endresen and the young vocalist Sanne Rambags (1994). She won the prestigious Conservatorium Talent Award in 2017. The trio got to know each other through the Breda foundation Beaux Jazz in 2015. Their debut album Under the Surface (2017) received rave reviews. Rambags has a terrific voice: low, full and yet bright if needs be. Lijbaart is responsible for the drumming and all sorts of percussion, Stadhouders plays the acoustic guitar, lyre, synthesizers and percussion. The universal language of their music has already taken the group to festivals in Mali, Mexico, China, and India, and now they’re coming to Rotterdam!
