Currently, Nate Smith is one of the most sought-after drummers in the jazz world. Not surprising, as the versatility of this man from Chesapeake, Virginia verges on the incredible. Smith grew up with the albums of Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers and has since developed his own unique drumming style. This might be the reason he was asked to tour with pop star Joe Jackson and bassist Dave Holland. He has also played on the albums of Chris Potter, Ravi Coltrane, Nicholas Payton, John Pattituci, and many others. He is also much in demand as a composer for the soundtracks of documentaries on Discovery Channel and The Learning Channel, among others. Last year his solo album KINFOLK: Postcards From Everywhere was released. The song Home Free (For Peter Joe) Smith received two Grammy nominations.
