The Nederlands Studenten Jazz Orkest (NSJO) is formed every year and consists of students from Dutch colleges and universities. Apart from its members, the entire organization behind this special collective is also made up of ambitious students. The result? A unique and refreshing take on jazz. The NSJO combines a traditional big band lineup with backing vocals and an eight-piece strings section. This enables the orchestra to blend jazz music in a revolutionary way with what they consider to be an underrated genre: disco. Grooving disco melodies are enhanced with surprising jazz sounds! Every year the NSJO tours the Netherlands with well-known musicians taking on the roles of conductor and guest vocalist. This year, the students put on a spectacular show with vocalist Raffaëla Paton, who is known, among other things, as the winner of the Dutch TV talent shows Idols and Beste Zangers (‘Best Singers’), her lead role in the musical Hair and as a singer with the band iDANCE.
