Fans of Kamasi Washington have known about Cameron Graves for some time thanks to his prominent role on Washington’s masterly debut album The Epic. Now it’s time for the visionary pianist and composer to shine the spotlight on himself. Graves attracted a lot of attention with the album Planetary Prince, released last year; a raw energetic album that glitters with stunning melodies and astonishing solos. On Planetary Prince Graves removes any doubt about his background in classical music. His amazing virtuosity allows him to stun listeners with spectacular arpeggios and crescendos framed by jazz and nu-metal; according to Washington: ‘a style so cool that it deserves its own genre.’ Earlier, pioneering bassist Stanley Clarke was impressed by Graves and hired him as a member of his band. Graves is one of the founders of the LA-based boundary-blurring musical collective West Coast Get Down whose members include Kamasi Washington, Thundercat and Miles Mosley.
