Grammy Award and Edison-winning singer Kurt Elling is coming to Rotterdam with one of the most exciting trumpeters of the past years: Marquis Hill. Elling was described in JazzTimes as ‘the most influential jazz vocalist of our time’. Although he is a scat singer, Elling has added his own style, the ‘rant’, which allows him to improvise with words on the spot. He recently released his latest album The Questions. Marquis Hill’s music can’t be categorized. He uses hip-hop, spoken word, modern beats, and traditional jazz on his pioneering albums. Jazz fans are looking forward to finding out how Ellings’ vocal acrobatics and Hill’s unique technique complement one another. One thing is certain: when two of today’s greats from the Chicago jazz scene join forces a seat in the front row is not an unnecessary luxury.
