Innovative New York-based guitarist and composer Liberty Ellman is active in jazz and beyond. He has played with greats like Joe Lovano and John Zorn, as well as with hip hop acts such as Midnight Voices and The Coup. Ellman is best known for his work with Henry Threadgill's pioneering group Zooid. Their last album In For A Penny, In For A Pound, which Ellman produced, mixed and played guitar on, was awarded a Pulitzer Prize in 2016. Ellman was also responsible for mastering and mixing Gregory Porter's Grammy-winning album Be Good. Alongside his collaborations with others, Ellman has released four highly acclaimed solo albums. Leading jazz magazine DownBeat listed him in the no. 1 spot on the Critics Poll as Rising Star Guitarist. JazzTimes listed Ellman alongside John Scofield and Bill Frissell as one of the best guitarists of the year in 2015.
