Matthew Herbert (1972) is a British elecronics musician who is also known under a range of monikers, such as Dr Rockit, Radio Boy, Mr. Vertigo, and Transformer, under which he recorded a variety of releases. After two acclaimed big band albums, Herbert announced a third one, in protest to Brexit. It was a two-year collaborative project right across Europe ‘celebrating artistic and musical collaboration and communities across national borders,’ according to Herbert himself. On his website, he writes: “The project will begin in England at the point at which the UK government triggers Article 50 and then run in parallel across Europe with concerts, recording sessions and workshops, culminating in an album release date at the same moment that Britain leaves the EU in 2019.” His performance at North Sea Jazz with Matthew Herbert’s Brexit Big Band will be part of his extraordinary journey.
