Singer-songwriter Fuensanta Méndez was born in Mexico and her roots lie in the music of Latin America. Her fondness for poetry is reflected in the lyrics she writes. The other members of her quintet are: Israeli drummer Guy Salamon, Scottish bassist Brodie Jarvie, Armenian-Russian pianist Liya Grigoryan, and Italian Nicolò Ricci on tenor saxophone. The group is based in Amsterdam. In the past, Méndez has worked with Spanish saxophonist Irene Reig. In 2016 the Fuensanta Méndez Quintet won the Press Award at the Princess Christina Jazz Concours. Part of this prize was to give a concert at the North Sea Jazz Festival, so this year the quintet knows what's in store for them.
