British singer-songwriter ALA.NI, who released her stunning debut album You & I last year, is living proof that it can be a good thing to allow a talent to mature. Her music is like a siren song luring you to a place where you may not want to go but once you realize it, it's too late – she has you captive. ALA.NI draws on classic Hollywood musicals and old folk songs and adds a magical, fairytale-like touch to them. She grew up in west London, the child of a reggae/calypso bassist and a seamstress. When she sang Over The Rainbow for her parents aged just three, they immediately knew she was talented. ALA.NI studied theater and singing and then toured for a number of years as a backing vocalist with the likes of Andrea Bocelli, Mary J. Blige and Blur. It was only a few years ago, after the end of a relationship, that she began to write songs that often came to her in her dreams.
