There is something irrepressibly cheerful about the music of Gladys Knight; even the classic tearjerker I Heard It Through The Grapevine is a swinging party number when she performs it. As a child, Knight sang in church and she began to perform with her brother and cousins in Gladys Knight & The Pips aged just 16. The group had many hits and recorded some of the most memorable songs of the sixties and seventies. Knight then went on to a solo career and in 1985 she had a no. 1 hit with Stevie Wonder, Elton John and Dionne Warwick: That’s What Friends Are For. She has also appeared in films and TV series. Today, Knight is a great-grandmother. She and her husband manage an entertainment company in Las Vegas while Knight also devotes a lot of time to charity work. Her many fans are fortunate that she still finds time to perform in between!
