Driven by a deep-seated curiosity that pushes him to explore new territory, Chicago-based saxophonist and composer Greg Ward is one of the most versatile jazz musicians of his generation. He leans firmly towards modern jazz, but adds touches of classic hard bop and free jazz. On his critically acclaimed album Touch My Beloved’s Thought Ward goes a step further and draws inspiration from Charlie Mingus’ masterpiece The Black Saint And The Sinner. Ward incorporates the drama and passion of Mingus’ opus into his own work. Ward has worked with an impressive list of greats, including Al Jarreau, Brian McKnight, and Jeff Parker. In addition, he has toured from Peru to Singapore, Europe and South Africa and from Guam to Japan. He has played at renowned festivals like Montreux, Umbria Jazz, and the Hyde Park Jazz Festival. At North Sea Jazz, Greg Ward will perform Touch My Beloved’s Thought with his tentet 10 Tongues.
