Alto saxophone player-composer Maarten Hogenhuis (1986) plays power jazz in the group BRUUT!, is a member of the band Krupa & The Genes and leads both a quartet and a trio. He is also a member of The More Socially Relevant Jazz Music Ensemble. He has often won prizes, such as the title of Best Soloist in the Dutch Jazz Competition in 2012 and in 2014 the Laren Jazz Award. Hogenhuis’s latest album that he made together with bassist Thomas Rolff and drummer Mark Schilders is called Mimicry. The men prefer open structures, slowly evolving patterns and turn their ears to each other a lot. This is a genuine trio, with members who regard each other as equals. An Ellington medley (The Single Petal Of A Rose and Le Sucrier Velours) can easily be given a place among Hogenhuis’s compositions. According to the magazine Jazzism "this music makes you discover that jazz is alive!"
