Chick Corea (1941) has been one of the world's jazz giants since the '60s. Just listen, for instance, to his legendary album Now He Sings, Now He Sobs (1968) which he recorded at the same time as he was playing with Miles Davis during one of the trumpeter's most important periods (the transition from acoustic to electric jazz). Corea also played on phenomenal Miles Davis records like In A Silent Way and Bitches Brew. In the eighties, with his now-classic Elektric Band, Corea himself made a series of groundbreaking albums, including Light House and Beneath The Mask. His formula blended jazz, rock, Latin, and funk with auditory innovations. He had been delving into these exciting cross-overs back in the seventies with his jazz-rock band Return To Forever. Chick Corea is performing at North Sea Jazz with a true all-star Elektric Band: Eric Marienthal (saxophone), Frank Gambale (guitar), Nathan East (bass) and Dave Weckl (drums). A piece of jazz history to look forward to with anticipation!
