DJ Jairzinho (real name Jaïr Tchong) was given the 7” Blues March by Art Blakey et les Jazz Messengers au Club St Germain by his mother at age 15, and has since then been hooked on jazz. Later, he experimented with punk, postpunk, indie, funk, and rare groove, but ultimately found his base in salsa, especially the slightly rougher NYC version from the 70s, and the source of all salsa: Cuban son. Senegalese mbalax is, after jazz and salsa, Jairzinho’s third great love.
