The Codarts & Royal Conservatory Big Band is created out of the best jazz students of Codarts Rotterdam and the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. The big bands of both schools performed many times before at North Sea Jazz, both together and individually. This year, there is a special collaboration with the Syrian Big Band, which gave jazz music a voice in home country Syria as the first big band in the Arabic world. The Syrian Big Band is a jazz orchestra, but stands out through its use of varied traditional Eastern instruments. Saxophonist Tineke Postma will perform with this assembled Union Big Band as a special guest.
